I have always been a huge fan of the early Marshall amplifiers.
All the Marshall amps and cabinets ranges from 1969 to 1978. They are all JMP. Each amp has its very own
characteristic, much more so than the Fender family. The late 60's point to point Marshall amps are heard every
day on the radio from Cream to Hendrix and many others. These amps are true Classic Rock and Roll legends.
Half of the heads I own are non master JMPs and the other half have Master Volumes form 1975 to 1978. They
sound great as well. Nothing like a 1976 50 watt master with Mullard EL84s to get that ACDC crunch. Also,
I like to bias them a little hot to get ultimate tube saturation.
Just as important as the heads
are the Marshall Cabinets. I have at least 12 - 4x12 cabinet from 1969 to 1977. All are loaded with
vintage matching Celestion Quads. The Celestions speakers have 102 003 or 102/3 pulsonic cones. After
1972 the pulsonic cone was discontinued and the Celestion speakers never sounded the same. I do have a few quads
of blackbacks and creambacks from the mid 70 but they do not have the same warm tone as the 102 Celestions
from pre 72. In addition, I have some straight front bottom B cabinets that are loaded with rare 55 Hz Celestion
pulsonic cones. These cabinets get the fattest/tightest bottom end I have ever heard. Recorded correctly
in left and right at 3 and 9 o'clock it will bring tears to the eyes of the most discerning rocker!
